RAMALLAH, June 23, 2026 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Commission revealed on Tuesday the catastrophic conditions faced by Palestinian female prisoners in Damon Prison, citing severe overcrowding, deliberate medical neglect, and the denial of basic human rights.
In a press statement, the Commission affirmed that its lawyers, during a visit to the prison, observed the living and health conditions of the female prisoners. It noted that Damon Prison currently holds 87 Palestinian female prisoners, including three from the Gaza Strip, with administrative detainees constituting approximately one-third of the total.
The Commission reported that several female prisoners are suffering from serious health conditions requiring immediate treatment and specialized medical care. However, the prison administration continues to deny them appropriate medical treatment as part of a policy of deliberate medical neglect.
The Commission added that pregnant female prisoners are facing extremely harsh humanitarian and health conditions, lacking necessary medical care and basic necessities to ensure their safety and the safety of their unborn children.
Regarding living conditions, the Commission noted that the cells are severely overcrowded, with more than ten female prisoners held in large cells and at least five in small cells, despite limited space, high temperatures, and poor ventilation.
The Commission also pointed out that the women are allowed only one hour per day outside their cells for recreation and showering. They also continue to face poor-quality food and severe shortages of clothing, personal belongings, and essential hygiene products.
It reiterated its call to international and local human rights and women's rights organizations to take urgent action to pressure the occupation authorities to stop the violations against female prisoners and end the policies of isolation, abuse, and medical neglect they endure in Israeli prisons.
