BEIRUT, June 5, 2026 (WAFA) – Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam received on Friday President Mahmoud Abbas’ special representative and member of the Fatah Central Committee, Yasser Abbas, along with the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Lebanon, Mohammad Al-Asaad, in the presence of the head of the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee, Ambassador Ramez Dimashkieh.
During the meeting, Abbas conveyed President Mahmoud Abbas’ greetings to Prime Minister Salam, reaffirming the State of Palestine’s support for Lebanon’s security, stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its commitment to strengthening the fraternal and historic ties between the two brotherly countries.
The two sides reviewed the general situation in Lebanon and the conditions of Palestinian refugees in camps and communities, including the repercussions of displacement from camps in southern Lebanon and the humanitarian and living challenges that have followed.
They also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and joint coordination on issues of mutual concern.
The meeting underscored the importance of maintaining Lebanese-Palestinian dialogue and coordination and advancing the implementation of existing understandings, including the plan for the handover of Palestinian weapons in accordance with agreed mechanisms and in line with the principle of extending Lebanese state sovereignty across its entire territory.
Abbas reiterated the Palestinian leadership’s support for this process and its commitment to full cooperation with the Lebanese state in a manner that promotes security and stability and serves the common interests of the two brotherly peoples.
For his part, Salam expressed appreciation for the Palestinian positions supporting Lebanon and stressed the importance of continued coordination and cooperation between the two sides on various shared issues.
