Arab Parliament says 59th anniversary of 1967 setback comes amid most dangerous phase for the region

CAIRO, June 5, 2026 (WAFA) – The Arab Parliament said Friday that the 59th anniversary of the June 1967 setback comes at the most dangerous stage in the region’s history, amid continued Israeli expansionist, colonial and displacement policies and an unprecedented escalation against the Palestinian people.

In a statement issued by its speaker, Mohammed Al Yamahi, the Arab Parliament said current developments reflect a systematic plan aimed at eliminating the Palestinian cause and imposing a colonial reality by force, in violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions.

The statement said Israel has continued its military campaign, destruction and starvation policies in the Gaza Strip despite the ceasefire agreement, while simultaneously accelerating annexation and colonial expansion plans and the displacement of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

It added that these policies seek to entrench a system of apartheid and target Islamic and Christian holy sites, describing them as a continuation of the occupation project that began in 1967 through increasingly extreme measures aimed at erasing the historical rights of the Palestinian people and imposing new realities on the ground by force.

Al Yamahi stressed that continued Israeli violations against Palestinians, along with expanding attacks on Arab territories in southern Lebanon and Syria, pose a direct threat to Arab national security as well as regional and international peace and security.

He said the passage of 59 years since the 1967 war should prompt the international community to reassess its position toward the occupation, which continues to defy international will and disregard its legal obligations despite numerous international resolutions affirming the illegality of occupation and colonial settlement activities.

The Arab Parliament called on the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council and the United Nations, to assume their legal and moral responsibilities by taking immediate and concrete measures to halt Israeli attacks, end the occupation of Palestinian and Arab territories occupied since 1967, and hold accountable those responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
