RAMALLAH, April 17, 2026 (WAFA) — The Palestinian National Council (PNC) underscored on Friday the urgent need for an independent international investigation into crimes committed against Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
In a statement issued to mark Palestinian Prisoners' Day, the PNC asserted that such crimes are not subject to a statute of limitations and called for immediate international protection for detainees.
It expressed its absolute rejection and condemnation of the racist law allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners, characterizing it as legally null and void.
The PNC further called for holding Israeli occupation leaders responsible for these violations accountable before international courts.
It highlighted that the conditions faced by prisoners within occupation detention centers constitute a systematic violation of international humanitarian law, noting that these practices amount to crimes including torture, extrajudicial killing, deprivation, cruel treatment, and unlawful detention.
The statement noted that the public incitement by extremist minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, alongside ongoing policies of systematic torture, reflects an official Israeli policy aimed at entrenching punishment and repression against Palestinian detainees.
