RAMALLAH, March 6, 2026 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas received a phone call on Friday from Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to discuss the latest developments in Palestine and the region, emphasizing the need to halt escalations and attacks and return to dialogue.
During the call, President Abbas reiterated the State of Palestine’s condemnation of Iran's attacks on Arab countries and Cyprus, stressing the importance of stopping them to prevent further escalation and regional conflict.
He also affirmed the dangers of the Israeli escalation in Lebanon, underlining the need for international efforts to fully halt hostilities and protect the Lebanese state and people.
President Abbas briefed the Greek Prime Minister on the critical situation in the Palestinian territories, particularly in the West Bank and Jerusalem, amid continued Israeli violations, settler attacks, and unilateral measures aimed at imposing facts on the ground and undermining the internationally supported two-state solution.
He stressed the importance of ensuring Israel’s compliance with the ceasefire agreement under U.S. President Donald Trump’s plans and UN Security Council resolutions, reopening the Rafah crossing, allowing the entry of humanitarian aid, and implementing the second phase of the UN-mandated Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, including the handover of weapons by armed Palestinian factions to the state.
Prime Minister Mitsotakis affirmed Greece’s commitment to monitoring developments, supporting efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region, ensuring humanitarian aid reaches Gaza, strengthening the role of the Palestinian Authority, halting settlement expansion in the West Bank, and stopping escalations affecting Arab countries, Cyprus, and Lebanon.
