RAMALLAH, February 11, 2026 (WAFA) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Oslo, the Norwegian capital, on Wednesday to discuss the latest political developments in Palestine and ways to strengthen bilateral relations.
President Abbas expressed his appreciation for Norway's support of the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, culminating in Norway's recognition of the State of Palestine on May 28, 2014.
The President thanked Norway, its King, government, and people, for their continued political and economic support to the State of Palestine, particularly humanitarian and development aid.
President Abbas and Prime Minister Støre also discussed the latest political developments concerning the Palestinian issue, as well as a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest, and ways to strengthen the historical ties and bonds of friendship between the two countries and their peoples.
The President reviewed the efforts underway to solidify the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the need to move towards implementing the second phase of US President Donald Trump's plan.
President Abbas affirmed the unity of the Palestinian territory and rejected any schemes to separate the Gaza Strip from the West Bank. The President also stressed the need for a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Strip and for the Palestinian government to be able to exercise its responsibilities throughout all Palestinian territory, based on the principle of one legitimate authority, one law, and one legitimate armed force.
The President briefed the Norwegian Prime Minister on the Israeli violations against the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the seriousness of the recent occupation decisions aimed at deepening annexation in the West Bank, expanding colonial settlements, and violating the sanctity of holy sites. President Abbas emphasized the necessity of confronting and halting these actions and adhering to international law.
The President stressed that these measures constitute a flagrant violation of international law and UN resolutions, and aim to undermine Palestinian state institutions, the two-state solution, and entrench the occupation through attempts to legitimize colonial settlements and the theft of land, in contravention of international law and the Geneva Conventions.
The President called for urgent and effective European and international action to halt annexation and settlement expansion, and to hold the Israeli government accountable for its ongoing violations, in order to preserve the credibility of the international system based on respect for international law and the UN Charter.
President Abbas also called on Norway, the European Union, the United States, and all international partners to pressure Israel to end its financial war and cease its illegal deductions from Palestinian tax revenues, which limit the government's ability to fulfill its obligations to the Palestinian people. The President further stressed the necessity of releasing all withheld funds.
The President briefed the Norwegian Prime Minister on the comprehensive national reform program being implemented by the Palestinian government to develop and modernize the legal and institutional framework of the State of Palestine, consolidate the rule of law, strengthen the principles of good governance, transparency, and accountability, and ensure the separation of powers.
President Abbas confirmed that municipal elections would be held in April, the Fatah General Conference in May, and elections for the Palestinian National Council in November.
The meeting was attended by: Ziad Abu Amr, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Majdi Al-Khalidi, advisor to the President for diplomatic affairs, and Marie Antoinette Sedin, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Norway.
