Shallal Al-Auja community, north of Jericho, completely emptied after years of settler violence and abuses

JERICHO, January 31, 2026 (WAFA) – The Palestinian community of Shallal Al-Auja, located north of Jericho, has been entirely subjected to forced displacement after years of ongoing violence by Israeli settler militias, with the last three families being expelled on Saturday, completing the displacement of all approximately 120 Palestinian families, according to the  Al-Baydar Organization for the Defense of Bedouin Rights.

Al-Baydar noted that the displacement did not occur suddenly or all at once, but in successive stages. Families were forced to leave their homes and tents gradually under continuous settler violence and a systematic campaign of intimidation aimed at breaking residents' resilience and compelling them to leave.

The organization said the community had faced a long history of severe violations since its establishment, including repeated raids, physical assaults, direct threats to residents—especially women and children—destruction of property, shelters, and livestock pens, theft and poisoning of sheep, restrictions on water sources and grazing lands, and daily harassment of shepherds, leaving residents in a constant state of fear and insecurity.

Al-Baydar emphasized that these violations were frequent and systematic, often occurring without any protection for civilians, making life in the community impossible and forcing families into displacement to preserve their safety and that of their children.

The organization confirmed that the final stage of displacement took place on Saturday with the dismantling of the tents of international solidarity activists who had been present to provide protection and human rights monitoring, coinciding with the eviction of the last three families, fully emptying the area of any Palestinian or solidarity presence.

Al-Baydar condemned the displacement of the community as a fully realized crime and a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, holding the Israeli occupation fully responsible.

The organization called on the international community, human rights and humanitarian bodies, and UN special rapporteurs to urgently intervene to halt forced displacement in the Palestinian Jordan Valley, provide immediate protection to threatened communities, and hold perpetrators accountable for violations against civilians.
