PM Mustafa discusses developments in Palestine with Belgian Deputy PM

DAVOS, January 20, 2026 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa emphasized on Tuesday the need for effective international action, particularly by the European Union, to stop Israeli actions against the Palestinian people, resume the transfer of withheld Palestinian tax revenues, and open Gaza Strip crossings for humanitarian aid, temporary shelter, and reconstruction supplies.

He made the remarks during his meeting with Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot on the sidelines of the Davos Economic Forum, where they discussed developments in Gaza and the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

Mustafa praised Belgium’s support for the Palestinian cause and its recognition of the State of Palestine, considering it genuine support for the two-state solution, alongside its ongoing political and humanitarian support for the Palestinian people.

For his part, Prévot stressed the importance of securing a ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid, reiterating Belgium’s support for recovery and reconstruction plans and for a political path toward Palestinian statehood, as well as regional peace and stability.

He noted that Belgium has adopted national measures against its citizens residing in illegal Israeli colonies, including the suspension of all consular services, reaffirming his country’s opposition to settlement and annexation policies.

Prévot also expressed rejection of Israeli actions aimed at annexing the West Bank and withholding Palestinian Authority funds, deeming them unacceptable, and pledged Belgium's continued pressure within the EU for increased humanitarian support for Gaza.
