RAMALLAH, December 22, 2025 (WAFA) – President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas said that Palestine is ready to work with US President Donald Trump, mediators, and partners to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

During a joint press conference with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah on Monday, President Abbas highlighted the crucial role Greece, supported by the European Union, can play in advancing peace and stability in the region and beyond.

The president underscored the urgent need to pressure the Israeli government to halt actions undermining Palestinian national institutions, attacks on Christian and Islamic holy sites, and the erosion of the two-state solution through settlement expansion and colonist violence, while emphasizing the critical importance of releasing the withheld Palestinian tax revenues.

President Abbas also underscored the urgent need to implement President Trump’s plan and UN Security Council Resolution 2803 by enforcing the ceasefire, ensuring the immediate flow of humanitarian aid including food, medicine, and shelter supplies, preventing displacement, ensuring the immediate withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces, and enabling the Palestinian government and its security agencies to fully assume their responsibilities, in addition to accelerating reconstruction efforts.

President Abbas described the visit as reflecting the deep historical friendship between the two countries and peoples, highlighting shared values within the framework of Mediterranean neighborhood relations and EU partnership.

He expressed appreciation to Greece for its supportive positions on Palestinian rights in international forums, its firm commitment to achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, and its humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza.

For his part, the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said he was pleased to meet with President Mahmoud Abbas to discuss critical issues and reaffirm Greece’s steadfast commitment to dialogue, stability, and peace in the Middle East.

He expressed his heartfelt condolences for the loss of civilians in Gaza and for the suffering endured by all innocent victims and their families, emphasizing that the protection of civilians and respect for international and humanitarian law are fundamental principles consistently upheld by Greece in its communications with all parties.

Mitsotakis underscored Greece’s proactive role in mitigating humanitarian suffering through significant aid and financial contributions, and the delivery of relief supplies in close coordination with international partners on the ground, and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to sustaining this support in partnership with its partners.

The Greek prime minister noted that the 20-point peace plan provides a reliable and practical framework for addressing urgent needs on the ground. He emphasized that the key challenge lies in facilitating the transition to the next phases of the plan’s implementation while contributing to the development of a credible political horizon.

He reaffirmed Greece’s unwavering support for the two-state solution in line with international law and relevant UN resolutions, as the foundation for achieving a just and lasting peace for both Palestinians and Israelis, expressing appreciation for recognizing Greece as a trusted and respected partner and for leveraging its position on the UN Security Council.

Mitsotakis emphasized that Greece will do everything possible, as a country belonging to and understanding the region, to seize this opportunity and move forward toward achieving a lasting and stable peace in the Middle East.

He also expressed support for the Palestinian Authority, praising the ongoing substantial reforms and pledging assistance in any possible way to enhance Palestinian operational and institutional capacities and ensure the desired outcomes for the Palestinian people.
