ROME, November 7, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas met on Thursday evening with the Arab ambassadors accredited to Italy, providing a comprehensive briefing on the latest political, humanitarian, and diplomatic developments in Palestine.
During the meeting, President Abbas outlined the situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, briefing the ambassadors on the continued efforts to secure a sustained ceasefire in Gaza.
He stressed the urgent need for uninterrupted humanitarian aid—food, medicine, and relief supplies—to enter the enclave, and reiterated that Israeli forces must withdraw so the Palestinian government can assume full responsibility for Gaza and reconnect it administratively with the West Bank.
He also emphasized preparations for reconstruction and the importance of preventing displacement of the Palestinian people and annexation of land.
The President reviewed the outcomes of September’s meetings in New York, including the adoption of the New York Declaration, and briefed the ambassadors on ongoing diplomatic and political efforts in various capitals, as well as within the United Nations and the Security Council.
President Abbas underscored that Gaza is an integral part of the State of Palestine and reaffirmed that the Palestinian government will take full responsibility for the territory with the backing of Arab and international partners.
He also highlighted Israel’s continued settlement expansion and colonist attacks in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, stressing the need for collective action to halt these violations and protect Palestinian communities.
The President called for intensified Arab efforts to support Palestine’s push for additional international recognition, particularly from Italy, after a growing number of European and other states have recognized the State of Palestine.
