Arab and International leaders applaud ceasefire agreement in Gaza

RAMALLAH, October 9, 2025 (WAFA) – Several Arab and international countries and organizations welcomed on Tuesday the announcement of an agreement to cease the war on the Gaza Strip, more than two years after the outbreak of the Israeli aggression that left over 67,000 Palestinians dead and 170,000 injured.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the announcement of an agreement, urging all parties concerned to fully adhere to its terms.

Guterres affirmed that the UN will support its full implementation of the agreement, expand ongoing principled humanitarian assistance, and bolster recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza.

He called on all parties to seize this opportunity to establish a credible political path toward ending the occupation and recognizing the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, leading to a two-state solution that enables Palestinians and Israelis to live in peace and security.

For his part, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed the agreement, saying, "This agreement must now be fully implemented without delay, and accompanied by the immediate lifting of all restrictions on life-saving humanitarian assistance to Gaza."

Starmer added, "We call on all parties to fulfill their commitments, end the war, and lay the foundations for a just and lasting end to the conflict and a sustainable path towards long-term peace."

French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the ceasefire agreement, stressing that France will continue its discussions with international partners in pursuit of a political solution to the war.

"This agreement must mark the end of the war and the beginning of a political solution based on a two-state solution," Macron said in posts on X.

He added, "France is ready to contribute to achieving this goal. We will discuss it this afternoon in Paris with our international partners."

For his part, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said that Rome is ready to play its part in strengthening the ceasefire, providing new humanitarian aid, and participating in the reconstruction of Gaza. We are also ready to send troops if an international peacekeeping force is established to reunify Palestine.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stressed that the agreement represents important progress and a real opportunity to end the war, and that the European Union will do its utmost to support its implementation.

For her part, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and called on all parties to fully adhere to its terms. She affirmed that the European Union will continue its support for the delivery of aid to Gaza and stands ready to assist in reconstruction.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan welcomed the agreement, stressing that Turkey will closely monitor the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement and continue to contribute to this process.

He stressed the continuation of the struggle until the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and geographically integrated Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Yamahi also welcomed the agreement, considering it an important step toward ending the bloodshed and establishing a just and comprehensive peace.

He stressed the need for this agreement to be the beginning of a comprehensive process for reconstruction, achieving justice, and ending the suffering of civilians, calling on all parties to abide by its provisions and work to implement them.

He also called on the international community to assume its responsibility to pressure the occupation to abide by and cease all its unilateral measures that violate international law, most notably halting settlement activity, settler terrorism, attacks on holy sites, and the withholding of Palestinian tax funds.

Al-Yamahi affirmed the Arab Parliament's continued support for the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign state.
