JERUSALEM, September 10, 2025 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces this evening detained the Director of the Islamic Cemeteries Care Committee in Jerusalem, Ahmad al-Dajani, while he was present on Salah al-Din Street in the city of Jerusalem and led him to an unknown destination.
This detention is part of ongoing Israeli policies targeting Palestinian religious figures in Jerusalem, aimed at dismantling local leadership and weakening institutions that safeguard the city's religious and historical identity.
Islamic cemeteries in Jerusalem have previously been subjected to repeated violations, raids, and attempts at land seizure and Judaization, sparking outrage among Palestinian citizens and religious institutions.
These cemeteries are considered an integral part of Jerusalem’s religious and historical heritage and are overseen by the Islamic Cemeteries Care Committee, which works to protect and maintain sacred sites from any form of aggression.
They contain the graves of generations of Palestinians and important religious scholars, making any attempt to encroach upon or alter them a direct threat to the city's religious and historical identity.
