LONDON, September 9, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas met on Tuesday with several British figures and officials in a joint meeting at his residence in London.
The President expressed his gratitude for their efforts and for Britain’s stance in supporting ceasefire initiatives, facilitating humanitarian aid, opposing colonial settlement expansion and settler violence, and working toward achieving peace through the two-state solution. President Abbas also highly valued Britain’s intention to recognize the State of Palestine.
The President briefed the attendees on the latest developments in the Palestinian Territory and emphasized the urgent need to support international efforts to achieve a ceasefire, facilitate humanitarian aid access, ensure the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the entire Gaza Strip, enable the State of Palestine to fully assume its responsibilities there, release Palestinian funds withheld by Israel, and halt all unilateral actions, including colonial settlement construction, colonists’ terrorism, and annexation.
The President also reiterated the State of Palestine’s commitments regarding reform measures across all fields.
The President renewed his affirmation that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the State of Palestine, and that the state will fully assume its responsibilities there with Arab and international support.
President Abbas noted that preparations are underway to hold legislative and presidential elections within one year following the end of the war. He stressed that any party or candidate wishing to participate in the elections must adhere to the political program and international commitments of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), respect international legitimacy, and uphold the principle of one authority, one law, and one legitimate security force.
President Abbas reaffirmed Palestine’s commitment to peace, the two-state solution, and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side with Israel in security, stability, peace, and good neighborliness, Enabling the region to enjoy stability and prosperity.
