GAZA, September 9, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas met onTuesday at his residence in London, with the Chair of the British Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, Emily Thornberry, and members of the committee.
The meeting discussed the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and bilateral relations between the State of Palestine and the United Kingdom.
The President expressed his deep appreciation for Britain's positions, particularly its efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, reject settlement activity and settler violence, and work diligently to achieve the two-state solution.
The President praised the United Kingdom's historic decision to recognize the State of Palestine ahead of the international peace conference in New York later this month, describing it as a corrective step to a historical injustice and a new horizon for achieving peace.
The President emphasized the current Palestinian priorities: an immediate and permanent ceasefire, ensuring full access for humanitarian aid to Gaza, the release of hostages, the withdrawal of occupation forces, and the beginning of the early recovery and reconstruction process.
The President reiterated that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the State of Palestine, and that the state will assume its full responsibilities there with Arab and international support.
He also reiterated the State of Palestine's commitments regarding reform measures, noting that preparations are underway to hold parliamentary and presidential elections within a year of the end of the war. He emphasized that any party or candidate wishing to participate in the elections must adhere to the political platform and the international obligations of the Palestine Liberation Organization, international legitimacy, and the principle of "one authority, one law, and one legitimate security force."
He reiterated his readiness to work with Britain and Palestine's commitment to peace, the two-state solution, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side with Israel in security, stability, peace, and good neighborliness.
