JERUSALEM, September 8, 2025 (WAFA) – The Islamic Christian Commission for the Support of Jerusalem and Holy Sites strongly condemned the Israeli municipality's decision to replace the historic name of the Buraq Wall with the term Wailing Wall, calling it a new step of ongoing attempts to obliterate the religious and historical identity of this ancient Islamic site.
In a statement, the Commission stressed that changing the name of the Buraq Wall on buses is a distortion of the facts, a blatant assault on religious and cultural heritage, and a flagrant violation of UNESCO resolutions, which clearly recognized the Islamic identity of the Buraq Wall as an integral part of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Commission rejected fabricated Israeli terminology.
It warned against the occupation's attempts to exploit its ongoing bloody aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank to impose new realities in the city of Jerusalem, through the consolidation of colonies and repeated attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites, as part of an accelerated plan aimed at changing the character and religious and historical identity of the Holy City.
It emphasized that the occupation authorities' renaming of the Buraq Wall to a false name is an invalid measure that does not establish any religious or historical right for Jews to the Buraq Wall, nor will it undermine the Islamic identity of this ancient historical site.
It called on UNESCO to assume its responsibilities and intervene to confront this dangerous forgery, which is protected by UNESCO as part of its World Heritage Site, and to work to halt the ongoing Israeli attacks on the religious, historical, and cultural heritage of the city of Jerusalem.
