RAMALLAH, August 30, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas received a phone call from Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, during which Sánchez expressed the solidarity of the Spanish government and people with the Palestinian people in their quest to achieve their legitimate rights to establish their state in accordance with international legitimacy and international law.
Sánchez affirmed Spain's commitment to supporting the achievement of peace based on the two-state solution, with the State of Palestine living side by side with Israel in security, peace, and stability, thus contributing to regional and global stability.
The Spanish Prime Minister reiterated the importance of holding an international peace conference and continuing the work of the international coalition to implement the two-state solution and mobilizing support for the recognition of the State of Palestine.
He called for an immediate ceasefire, the entry of humanitarian aid, an end to settlement activity and colonist violence, and a transition to a political process based on international legitimacy and international law.
For his part, President Abbas thanked the Spanish Prime Minister for his country's support for the Palestinian people's rights to freedom and independence in accordance with international legitimacy and recognition of the State of Palestine in support of consolidating the two-state solution.
The President reiterated the importance of further international recognition of the State of Palestine and the urgent convening of an international peace conference to consolidate the two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy and international law, and the implementation of the Arab Peace Initiative.
President Abbas emphasized the priority of an immediate ceasefire and the entry of aid to prevent famine, displacement, and killing; the full withdrawal of Israel from the Gaza Strip; the assumption by the State of Palestine of its full responsibilities in the Gaza Strip with Arab and international support.
He also highlighted the need to expedite the cessation of settlement activity, colonist terrorism, and annexation attempts; the release of withheld Palestinian funds; and an end to attacks on Christian and Islamic religious sites in Palestine.
