GAZA, August 24, 2025 (WAFA) – Eight more people, including a child, have died in the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours due to famine and severe malnutrition, as the humanitarian catastrophe deepens under continued Israeli siege, according to medical sources.
According to hospital data, the death toll from starvation and malnutrition across the Gaza Strip has now reached 289, including 115 children. The figures reflect the rapidly worsening food crisis that has gripped the population since Israel intensified its blockade and military assault in October 2023.
The crisis escalated significantly after March 2025, when Israeli authorities sealed off all border crossings, effectively halting the entry of most humanitarian aid, including food and medical supplies. Since then, aid agencies have struggled to deliver assistance, and residents have reported growing desperation and lack of access to basic necessities.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has warned that child malnutrition rates doubled between March and June, amid ongoing restrictions. The World Health Organization also raised alarm, stating that malnutrition in Gaza has reached alarming levels and that deliberate obstruction of aid and delays have directly led to the loss of civilian lives.
According to the WHO, nearly one in five children under the age of five in Gaza City is suffering from acute malnutrition, placing them at immediate risk without urgent intervention.
