RAMALLAH, August 20, 2025 (WAFA) - The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) and the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission said that the occupation authorities issued new and renewed administrative detention orders against 55 Palestinian detainees.
In a joint statement released today, PPS and the commission said the Israeli occupation continues to escalate its use of administrative detention under the pretext of a "secret file."
They noted that administrative detainees now represent the largest category among Palestinian prisoners, compared to those who are sentenced, awaiting trial, or classified as "unlawful combatants."
This marks an unprecedented increase since the start of the genocide, with the number of administrative detainees now reaching around 3,600.
PPS and the Commission published the names of detainees who received new and renewed detention orders, without charge or trial.
The period of the detentions varied between three to six months.
Israel’s widely condemned policy of administrative detention allows detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals usually ranging between three and six months based on undisclosed evidence that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.
“Israel‘s use of administrative detention blatantly violates the restrictions of international law. Israel carries it out in a highly classified manner that denies detainees the possibility of mounting a proper defense,” says Israeli human rights group B’Tselem.
