Israeli police detain 25 protestors as they participated in strike called for by hostages' families

TEL AVIV, August 17, 2025 (WAFA) – Israeli police detained 25 protesters on Sunday during their participation in the strike called for by the families of prisoners held in the Gaza Strip, demanding an end to the war and the return of the detainees.

Israeli Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said that Israeli police suppressed the protesters in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv using water cannons after they attempted to block several streets, tunnels, and bridges.

Israeli police were quoted as saying that the protesters blocked main roads, burned tires, and disrupted traffic.

Earlier today, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that the first activities of the general strike began with hundreds of women blocking the northern section of the vital Ayalon Highway in central Tel Aviv.
