GAZA, August 17, 2025 (WAFA) – Hospitals in the Gaza Strip recorded seven new deaths, including two children, in the past 24 hours due to starvation and severe malnutrition, bringing the total number of victims of famine and malnutrition to 251, including 110 children.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen amid the blockade and shortages of food and medical supplies.
Since March 2, 2025, Israeli authorities have closed all crossings with the Gaza Strip and blocked the entry of most food and medical aid, leading to the spread of famine across the Strip.
UNRWA warned that malnutrition among children under five has doubled between March and June due to the ongoing blockade.
The World Health Organization also warned that malnutrition rates in Gaza have reached alarming levels, stating that one in five children under five is acutely malnourished.
The death toll in the Gaza Strip has reached 61,897, the majority of whom were women and children, since the beginning of the Israeli aggression in October 2023. At least 155,660 others have also been injured.
This toll remains incomplete, as many victims remain trapped under rubble, inaccessible to ambulance and rescue crews.
