Irish Club Bohemians honor late Palestinian football star Suleiman Al-Obeid, killed by Israeli forces in Gaza

RAMALLAH, August 16, 2025 (WAFA) – Players of Irish club Bohemians Football Club wore shirts bearing the name and image of the late former Palestinian national team star, Suleiman Al-Obeid, in a tribute to his legacy.

In a post on X, the club wrote, "Today, Bohemians team wears shirts to honor Suleiman Al-Obeid, the 'Palestinian Pele,' a legend in Palestinian football. He scored over 100 goals and played 24 times for his country. On August 6, he was killed at the age of 41 by Israeli forces in Gaza."

The club considered Al-Obeid "not just a football player, but a symbol of determination and hope for his people."

The tribute by Irish Premier League club, founded over 130 years ago and a multiple league champion, reflects global solidarity with the Palestinian cause and pays tribute to the players who sacrificed their lives under difficult circumstances.

Al-Obeid began his career with his home club, Khadamat Al-Shati Club, and also played for Al-Amari Club in the West Bank Premier League. He scored his first international goal for the Palestine national team against Yemen during the 2010 West Asian Football Federation Championship.

He also represented the national team in the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers and the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
