GAZA, August 2, 2025 (WAFA) – Medical sources at Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City reported the death of Atef Abu Khater, a boy, on Saturday due to acute malnutrition and famine in the Gaza Strip.
Medical sources had announced a few days earlier that eight Palestinians had died due to famine and malnutrition in the Gaza Strip, bringing the total number of famine-related deaths to 155, including 90 children.
Gaza is currently facing the worst humanitarian crisis in its history, with the severe famine intertwined with a genocidal war waged by Israel since October 7, 2023.
Since March 2, 2025, Israel has closed all crossings with the Strip, blocking the entry of most food and medical aid, causing widespread famine within the Strip.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) warned that malnutrition among children under five had doubled between March and June as a result of the ongoing blockade.
The World Health Organization has also raised the alarm, confirming that the malnutrition rates in Gaza have reached alarming levels, with nearly one in five children under five in Gaza City suffers from severe malnutrition.
The Israeli occupation forces have continued their war on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, resulting in the killing of 60,138 documented fatalities, with nearly of 146,269 reported injured.
