Ghana sends emergency aid to Palestine amid escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza

RAMALLAH, August 2, 2025 (WAFA) – Ghanaian President John Mahama announced the dispatch of emergency humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people amid the escalating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

This came during a speech delivered by Ghanaian President John Mahama in the capital, Accra, during a ceremony to prepare an aid convoy containing forty tons of food products and urgent in-kind assistance.

The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the State of Palestine, Abdel Fattah Al-Satri, and a number of Arab and Muslim ambassadors accredited to the Republic of Ghana.

President Mahama affirmed his country's support for the rights and legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people, emphasizing that this grant is symbolic, reflecting the depth of the historical ties that have bound Ghana and Palestine since the opening of the Palestine Liberation Organization office in Accra in 1986.

He noted that providing this assistance represents a message of appreciation and respect for the Palestinian people, given the crises they are experiencing.

He added, "This step comes within the framework of supporting Palestinian families suffering from war and siege, emphasizing Ghana's steadfast position in defending human dignity and the rights of peoples, especially in conflict zones, especially women and children."

He reiterated his country's commitment to the two-state solution as the only legal option for achieving comprehensive and just peace between the Palestinian and Israeli peoples, calling on the international community to take immediate action to halt the aggression, open the crossings, and ensure the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

He emphasized that dialogue and negotiation remain the most effective tools to end violence and bring stability to the region, reaffirming Ghana’s support for all peace-oriented initiatives that uphold human dignity.

The Ghanaian President noted the positive role played by the Palestinian community residing in Ghana, which he described as "a genuine partner in national construction and societal development," praising its effective contributions across various sectors.

Concluding his remarks, the President sent a message of solidarity to the Palestinian people: "We send a clear message to the Palestinian people that they are not alone, and that Ghana, both government and people, stands by them during this difficult period and will always support their just cause until they achieve their legitimate rights to freedom, independence, and dignity."
