JEDDAH, September 9, 2026 (WAFA) - Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed expressed his support for the measures taken by the United Kingdom, Canada, and European countries to impose restrictions and sanctions on trade with illegal Israeli colonial settlements established in the occupied Palestinian territory.

In a statement, the OIC Secretary-General described the measures as an important step reflecting a commitment to the principles of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, and contributing to the preservation of the two-state solution.

The Secretary-General warned of the danger posed by the continued and escalating organized terrorism perpetrated by extremist colonists, as well as the policies of forced displacement and colonial settlement in the occupied Palestinian territory since 1967, particularly the so-called “E1 colonial plan” in occupied East Jerusalem.

He called for the activation of all available legal mechanisms to hold those responsible for crimes and violations against the Palestinian people accountable under international criminal law.

The OIC Secretary-General renewed his call for all countries to adopt decisive positions and take similar practical measures to ensure a complete halt to the illegal colonial settlement policy.

He stressed the Organization’s commitment to strengthening coordination with all international partners to mobilize the political, legal, and economic support necessary to end Israeli settlement and occupation and implement the New York Declaration on the two-state solution, enabling the Palestinian people to realize the sovereignty of their independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital.
