EU condemns escalating colonist terrorism in occupied West Bank

RAMALLAH, September 9, 2026 (WAFA) – The European Union expressed deep concern over the escalating colonist terrorism in the occupied West Bank, reiterating its condemnation of the “violent activities of colonists” against Palestinians.

Speaking to reporters at his daily press briefing on Tuesday evening, European Commission spokesperson for Foreign Affairs Anouar El Anouni cited recent statements by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas on the issue.

“Kallas stated that the violent colonist activities we are witnessing in the West Bank are a matter of grave concern, and we, in coordination with the member states, have condemned these actions,” he said.

El Anouni noted that settlements are considered illegal under international law, stressing that the EU has repeatedly called on Israel to halt all settlement activity and settlement expansion.

He said the EU has taken measures against Israelis involved in acts of violence against Palestinians, adding: “As the European Union, we have adopted three packages of sanctions against extremist settlers and organizations associated with them under the EU Global Human Rights Sanctions Regime.”

“These sanctions target 12 individuals and nine organizations,” he added, noting that additional sanctions proposals are currently under discussion by the Council.

Meanwhile, El Anouni said that the Council of the European Union has not yet reached any conclusions on the matter, adding that “the decision on the next steps rests with the member states.”
