JERUSALEM, August 1, 2025 (WAFA) — Human Rights Watch has declared that the killing of civilians seeking food in the Gaza Strip by the Israeli military constitutes a war crime.
In a report released today, the organization criticized the Israeli military’s flawed system for distributing aid in Gaza, describing it as having turned into a scene of bloodshed.
The report states that the dire humanitarian conditions in Gaza are a direct result of Israel’s use of starvation as a weapon of war against civilians, asserting that depriving Palestinians of essential aid amounts to a crime against humanity and an act of genocide.
Human Rights Watch called on the international community to exert pressure on the Israeli authorities to immediately halt the use of lethal force against civilians at aid distribution points. It also urged the removal of restrictions on humanitarian aid deliveries and demanded that the United States and Israel suspend the defective aid distribution system.
The organization further appealed for the United Nations and other humanitarian groups to resume aid distribution across Gaza without limitations. It emphasized that these organizations have proven capable of providing food according to humanitarian standards and in line with binding rulings from the International Court of Justice related to the genocide case filed by South Africa against Israel.
