OTTAWA, July 31, 2025 (WAFA) – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Wednesday evening his country's intention to recognize the State of Palestine during the UN General Assembly session next September.
This came during a press conference held by the Prime Minister, during which he confirmed that Canada has decided to recognize the State of Palestine in September and that it will continue to work with partners in the international community, Britain, and France, until the two-state solution is implemented.
Carney said that the possibility of achieving a two-state solution is evaporating before our eyes due to the expansion of colonies and unilateral actions by Israel in the West Bank and what is happening in the Gaza Strip, all of which reduce the possibility of establishing a Palestinian state.
"This is what prompted us to make this decision, and we are working to make it an effective solution again," he said.
He stressed Canada's support for the priorities announced by President Mahmoud Abbas, namely a ceasefire, the entry of medical and humanitarian aid, Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and a commitment to holding general elections.
Carney also discussed Canadian efforts to provide aid to the Gaza Strip in cooperation with Jordan.
