Colombian FM says two-state solution only viable path to ending crisis and crimes in Gaza

NEW YORK, July 29, 2025 (WAFA) – Colombian Foreign Minister Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio reaffirmed her country’s firm position that the only viable path to ending the crisis and ongoing crimes in Gaza is through the implementation of the two-state solution and ensuring the Palestinian people’s rights.

She stressed the urgent need for a permanent ceasefire, respect for international humanitarian law, and protection of civilians, particularly women and children.

Villavicencio pointed to the significance of the recent emergency meeting of The Hague Group, hosted in Bogotá, and reiterated Colombia’s commitment to joint action to end the ongoing genocide, pursue legal accountability through the International Criminal Court, and intensify diplomatic efforts to urge other states to join the group.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Colombian Foreign Minister affirmed her country’s steadfast commitment to upholding international law, defending the right of peoples to self-determination, and firmly rejecting military aggression and human rights violations.

She also noted that bilateral political consultations with Palestine will be held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly this coming September.

This came during a meeting with Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Shahin, held on the sidelines of the high-level international conference on the peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine and the implementation of the two-state solution.

Minister Shahin praised Colombia’s role in supporting Palestinian rights and its leadership of The Hague Group.

She affirmed that Colombia’s steps, particularly its leadership of The Hague Group, constitute a pivotal form of support for achieving justice and holding perpetrators of crimes against civilians accountable.
