GAZA, July 28, 2025 (WAFA) – Medical sources said that hospitals in the Gaza Strip recorded 14 new deaths due to famine and malnutrition over the past 24 hours, including two children who were exhausted by hunger.
The same sources added that with the 14 deaths, the total number of deaths due to famine and malnutrition has risen to 147, including 88 children.
Gaza is experiencing the worst humanitarian crisis in its history, as the severe famine overlaps with the genocidal war waged by Israel since October 7, 2023.
Since March 2, 2025, Israel has closed all crossings with the Gaza Strip, preventing the entry of most food and medical aid, causing a famine outbreak within the Strip.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has warned that malnutrition among children under the age of five doubled between March and June as a result of the ongoing blockade.
The World Health Organization confirmed that malnutrition rates in Gaza have reached alarming levels, and that the deliberate blockade and delays in aid delivery have caused many lives lost. Nearly one in five children under the age of five in Gaza City suffers from acute malnutrition.
Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher said that one in three people in Gaza has not eaten for days, calling for the rapid delivery of aid and the establishment of a permanent ceasefire.
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said that all citizens in the Gaza Strip are hungry, but children are "suffering the most." It continued: "Instead of going to school, boys and girls are risking their lives in the hope of getting some food."
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation forces have launched an offensive on the Gaza Strip, resulting in the killing of 59,821 civilians, the majority of whom were children and women, and the injury of 144,851 others. This is a preliminary toll, with a number of victims still under the rubble and on the streets, unable to be reached by ambulance and rescue crews.
