Israeli forces detain wife of late prisoner Walid Daqqa in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, May 29, 2025 (WAFA) — Israeli occupation forces detained Sanaa Salameh, the widow of the late Palestinian prisoner Walid Daqqa, on Thursday evening while she was in occupied Jerusalem with her daughter Milad.

Local sources reported that Salameh, a Palestinian citizen of Israel from the town of Baqa al-Gharbiya, was detained by Israeli police near Bab al-Amoud (Damascus Gate) and taken to an interrogation center.

Her husband, Walid Daqqa, died on April 7, 2024, after battling cancer and suffering from years of medical neglect in Israeli prisons. He had spent 38 years in detention. Israeli authorities continue to withhold his body, denying his family a proper burial.

The detention comes just one day after the Israeli government announced the implementation of deportation procedures targeting Palestinian citizens of Israel—a move described by the Adalah Legal Center as an “unprecedented and dangerous escalation” in a broader campaign of racial persecution.

Earlier today, Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir incited against Salameh, openly calling for her expulsion.
