Tulkarm: 122 days since Israel's aggression began on the city and refugee camps

TULKARM, May 28, 2025 (WAFA) – The Israeli occupation forces continue their aggression on the city of Tulkarm and its camp for the 122nd consecutive day, and on the 109th day in the Nur Shams camp, amid ongoing escalation on the ground.

WAFA correspondent reported that the city and its suburbs are witnessing intensive activity by occupation vehicles and infantry units around the clock. They patrol the main streets and neighborhoods, obstructing the movement of citizens and vehicles, provocatively honking their horns and driving against traffic. They also set up surprise checkpoints, particularly in the central market and on Nablus Street, subjecting citizens to detention, search, interrogation, and abuse.

This morning, occupation forces severely beat the young man Fouad Al-Ali after raiding his home in the western neighborhood of the city, searching it, and vandalizing its contents. He had been detained at a flying checkpoint on Nablus Street the previous evening and released after midnight.

Meanwhile, the occupation continues to impose a stifling siege on the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps, accompanied by occasional gunfire and explosions. The occupation forces are heavily deployed in their vicinity and neighborhoods, pursuing any resident attempting to reach their homes to inspect them, confiscate their belongings, and detain them.

In recent days, Nur Shams camp has witnessed a demolition campaign that has affected more than 20 residential buildings in its main neighborhoods, damaging neighboring buildings. This is part of the occupation's plan to demolish 106 buildings in the two camps, including 58 in Tulkarm camp and 48 in Nur Shams camp, to open roads and alter their geographical features.

Two days ago, the occupation forces also gave a number of residents of the al-Akasha and al-Balawna neighborhoods in Tulkarm camp three hours to evacuate their belongings from the homes from which they were forcibly evicted, in preparation for their demolition, as part of the planned demolition.

The occupation forces also continue to seize homes and residential buildings on Nablus Street and the adjacent northern neighborhood, after forcibly evacuating their residents and converting them into military barracks. Some of these buildings have been under occupation control for more than two months.

Nablus Street, which connects the Tulkarm and Nur Shams refugee camps, has suffered significant damage after the occupation forces placed intermittent earth mounds along its length months ago. This has significantly impacted vehicle traffic and exacerbated the suffering of residents.

In addition, the Tulkarm Municipality has completed paving work on a section of Nablus Street, specifically in front of the main northern entrance to Tulkarm refugee camp, which was destroyed by the occupation during its ongoing aggression. This work was funded by a government emergency grant, which includes infrastructure work and paving of several streets and intersections in the city and its suburbs.

The ongoing aggression has so far left 13 civilians dead, including a child and two women, one of whom was eight months pregnant. Dozens have also been wounded and detained, and the infrastructure, homes, shops, and vehicles have been destroyed by demolition, arson, and looting.

This escalation has displaced more than 4,200 families from the two camps, representing over 25,000 citizens. It has also led to the complete destruction of more than 400 homes and the partial destruction of 2,573 others. The entrances and alleys of the camps have been sealed off with earth mounds, transforming them into isolated areas almost devoid of any signs of life.
