JENIN, May 28, 2025 (WAFA) – The Israeli occupation forces continue their aggression on the city of Jenin and its camp for the 128th consecutive day, expanding their bulldozing and destruction operations inside the camp with the aim of altering its features and structure, while continuing to prevent entry or access to it.
Jenin Mayor Muhammad Jarrar stated that municipal crews are continuing to carry out infrastructure repairs in several areas of the city, as part of an emergency plan to ensure the preservation of essential services for citizens and the restoration of the city's economic cycle. This includes resurfacing and repairing entrances to enable citizens to enter and exit smoothly.
He explained that work is underway to resurface and repair major streets in the city, including Nazareth Street and Al-Bayader Street. He noted that intensive efforts are being made to completely repair the water network in the eastern neighborhood and to repair approximately 50% of the sewage network in the same area, at a cost of up to 17 million shekels. He also noted that the street leading to Ibn Sina Hospital in the city center is being rehabilitated.
Jarrar pointed out that the occupation completely destroyed the infrastructure in Jenin camp, and that municipal crews estimate that 600 homes in the camp were completely destroyed, in addition to the partial destruction of the rest.
He pointed out that the ongoing occupation aggression has displaced approximately 22,000 residents from the camp and its surrounding areas, imposing significant humanitarian and economic challenges on the Jenin Municipality. The direct damages from the aggression have so far reached $300 million, in addition to the 4,000 workers who have lost their jobs.
A citizen was injured yesterday, Tuesday, when occupation soldiers threw a tear gas canister at him, while a 12-year-old boy was injured by rubber bullets during clashes that took place in the city center after occupation forces stormed money exchange shops at Cinema Roundabout and Abu Bakr Street in the city center.
Large forces of the Israeli occupation army raided the Gulf Exchange on Haifa Street and Abu Bakr Street in Jenin. They also raided the Fakhr al-Din Exchange, seizing cash and all of its contents. They also detained several employees.
Israeli soldiers fired tear gas canisters in the city center, causing a group of journalists to suffocate. They also fired sound bombs and rubber bullets at citizens in the market. An Israeli army force raided shopping malls and deployed snipers on the roofs of buildings. The raid lasted for more than seven hours, during which Israeli soldiers disrupted the movement of citizens and shoppers. Businesses and government institutions were closed, and several schools were closed.
In the town of Araba, Israeli forces raided the Araba roundabout and the gas station area, raided a Gulf Exchange shop, searched it, detained an employee, seized cash and all of its contents, closed the shop, and hung leaflets on its walls.
Villages in Jenin Governorate are seeing almost daily raids as the aggression against the city and camp continues.
Daily military movements are occurring in most villages in the governorate, along with a constant presence of occupation patrols and vehicles.
The occupation continues to send military reinforcements to Jenin Camp and its surroundings, while occupation soldiers continue to fire live ammunition intensively inside. Infantry units are also deployed in several surrounding neighborhoods.
According to the Palestinian Prisoners' Club, the occupation has detained approximately 1,000 citizens from Jenin and Tulkarm over the past four months, including those who were later released.
The number of slain Palestinians since the beginning of the Israeli aggression has reached 40, with more than 200 injured.
