DUBLIN, May 28, 2025 (WAFA) - Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin said on Tuesday that his government will discuss a bill banning the import of goods from illegal Israeli colonies established in the occupied West Bank.
In a statement, Martin stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and an end to the massacre Israel has been perpetrating against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip for nearly 20 months.
He added that the indiscriminate bombing of innocent civilians, the killing of families, and the destruction of entire homes were all beyond any moral standard, noting that the entire world must pressure Israel to end this war immediately.
For his part, Irish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defense Simon Harris said he will ask the cabinet to approve the drafting of a bill banning imports from illegal colonies.
"In many ways this is a small measure, but it is imperative on all countries to do what we can to maximize the pressure and conditions to bring about a ceasefire because the scale of humanitarian disaster is almost unimaginable,” he said.
In 2018, the Irish Senate passed a bill banning products from Israeli colonies established on occupied Palestinian land.
