UN hails two-sate solation talks as pivotal moment for irreversible peace

NEW YORK, May 24, 2025 (WAFA) – The United Nations General Assembly held the first preparatory meeting for the High-Level International Conference on the Implementation of the Two-State Solution last night at its headquarters in New York City, co-chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and France, in preparation for the conference scheduled to be held from June 17 to 20.

Representatives of UN Member States participated in the meeting, where they emphasized the importance of the conference in generating the necessary momentum and international will to end the Israeli occupation and achieve a just and lasting peace in the region.

UN General Assembly President Philemon Yang emphasized that the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Palestinian Question and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, scheduled to be held in New York in June, represents "a critical opportunity that we must seize to chart an irreversible path towards the implementation of the two-state solution," emphasizing the necessity of its success.

Yang emphasized the utmost importance of this conference, commending the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and France as co-chairs of the international conference scheduled for June 17 to 20.

Yang added, "This conflict cannot be resolved through perpetual war, nor through endless occupation or annexation. It will only end when Israelis and Palestinians can live side by side in their independent, sovereign states, in peace, security, and dignity."

The UN official recalled that seven decades have passed since the General Assembly first called for a two-state solution. Since then, the Assembly has reaffirmed its unwavering support for this vision through numerous resolutions.

He said, "It is now our collective responsibility to act decisively and implement these resolutions. It is our responsibility now to uphold international law and respect the principles of the UN Charter. We must restore confidence in the United Nations, in the international community, and in our commitments to the peoples of Palestine and Israel."
