MOSCOW, May 9, 2025 (WAFA) — President Mahmoud Abbas met today with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the sidelines of the 80th anniversary celebrations of the victory over Nazism, hosted in Moscow.
During the meeting, President Abbas praised Egypt’s steadfast support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, especially their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He also commended Egypt’s alignment with Palestine’s consensus in firmly rejecting the forced displacement of the Palestinian people and the ongoing Israeli efforts to depopulate Gaza, as well as Cairo’s pivotal role in the efforts to end the Israeli aggression on the Strip.
President Abbas stressed the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end to Israel’s genocidal war. He underscored the critical need to allow the immediate entry of humanitarian aid—food, water, medicine, and fuel—into the besieged enclave, which has been under full blockade since March 2.
He reaffirmed the importance of implementing the joint Palestinian-Egyptian-Arab plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, based on the presence of Palestinians on their land and the rejection of all forms of displacement, foreign guardianship, or imposed occupation-based realities.
The two leaders also discussed the importance of maintaining joint coordination in regional and international forums to protect Palestinian rights and bolster efforts toward achieving a just and comprehensive peace in accordance with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The meeting was attended by PLO Executive Committee member Ahmad Majdalani, Presidential Advisor Yasser Abbas, Minister Ahmad Assaf, and Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Abdel Hafiz Nofal.
