Leaders of Malaysia, Columbia and South Africa say Gaza war proved international system a failure

KUALA LUMPUR, February 27, 2025 (WAFA) – The leaders of Malaysia, Colombia, and South Africa have strongly criticized the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza, declaring that it has exposed the failure of the international system.

In a joint article published Thursday by Foreign Policy magazine, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Colombian President Gustavo Petro, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa described U.S. President Donald Trump's plans for Gaza as "ethnic cleansing" and a "flagrant violation of international law."

The leaders began their article with a rhetorical question: "What remains of the international system?"

They went on to argue that for over 500 days, Israel—backed by powerful nations providing diplomatic cover, military supplies, and political support—has systematically violated international law in Gaza.

According to the three leaders, this "complicity" has dealt a devastating blow to the integrity of the UN Charter and its fundamental principles on human rights, sovereign equality, and the prohibition of genocide.

The article further emphasized that any system allowing the killing of 61,000 people in Gaza cannot merely be described as failing but has already failed completely.
