7th Arab Parliament Conference rejects displacement plans and stresses support for Palestinian rights

CAIRO, February 22, 2025 (WAFA) – The 7th Arab Parliament Conference has firmly rejected any plans for the displacement of the Palestinian people and annexation of Palestinian land, affirming its opposition to efforts aimed at undermining the Palestinian cause. The conference condemned such proposals as crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing, and a blatant violation of international law and humanitarian principles.

This statement was issued in the final communiqué of the 7th Arab Parliament Conference, which took place on Saturday at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo, with the participation of Deputy Speaker of the Palestinian National Council, Mousa Hadeed.

The communiqué stressed that "Arab unity is the first line of defense against all attempts and schemes to liquidate the Palestinian cause." The conference adopted a parliamentary document to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and reject all Israeli schemes, including the annexation of the West Bank and other plans aimed at eradicating the Palestinian cause. This document will be submitted to Arab leaders during the upcoming emergency Arab Summit in Egypt on March 4, 2025.

The document outlined 10 core principles of the Arab stance on the Palestinian cause, with key points emphasizing full support for the Palestinian people's inalienable rights, including the right to self-determination, the end of the occupation, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

The conference also called on Arab parliaments to coordinate efforts to suspend the membership of the Israeli Knesset in the Inter-Parliamentary Union and other regional parliamentary organizations, particularly the Mediterranean Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean.

Additionally, the conference tasked the Arab Parliament with preparing a unified Arab law to reject and criminalize all forms of displacement of the Palestinian people, which would serve as parliamentary support for the position of Arab governments in their rejection of any efforts to force displacement on Palestinians. This law aims to counter any attempts to impose a false reality at the expense of Palestinians' historical and legitimate rights.

The conference expressed strong support for Egypt's efforts, in coordination with the Palestinian National Authority, to develop a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of Gaza without displacing its residents and to gather international parliamentary support to thwart any plan to forcibly displace Gaza's population.
