ADDIS ABABA, February 15, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas met today with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on the sidelines of the 38th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The summit brings together numerous African leaders and government officials to discuss key regional and international issues.
During the meeting, discussions focused on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories. Both sides reaffirmed their firm rejection of any plans or attempts to displace the Palestinian people from their homeland, whether in Gaza, the West Bank, or East Jerusalem. They emphasized that such actions violate international law and United Nations resolutions.
President Abbas expressed his deep gratitude to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for his unwavering support for the Palestinian people and his commitment to preventing any efforts to undermine the Palestinian cause.
He stressed the importance of Palestinian-Egyptian coordination and broader Arab cooperation to ensure the reconstruction of Gaza while ensuring its residents remain in their homeland.
He also reaffirmed Palestine's commitment to the Arab Peace Initiative, which will be discussed at the upcoming emergency Arab League summit.
The President affirmed the strong historical ties between Palestine and Egypt, praising Egypt’s leadership, government, and people for their continued solidarity with the Palestinian people. He particularly appreciated Egypt’s ongoing humanitarian assistance, including the delivery of aid, shelter supplies, and reconstruction equipment to Gaza.
President Abbas reiterated that Palestine is not for sale and that the Palestinian people remain steadfast in their land, striving for freedom, independence, and self-determination.
He expressed appreciation for Egypt’s steadfast diplomatic efforts in supporting Palestinian rights in international forums and its commitment to ending the Israeli occupation.
