OCHA expresses concern over U.S. sanctions on ICC officials, calls for immediate reversal

New York, February 7, 2025 (WAFA) – The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has expressed deep concern over U.S. President Donald Trump's recent executive order to impose sanctions on officials of the International Criminal Court (ICC), urging the immediate reversal of these measures.

In a statement released on Friday, OCHA reiterated its full support for the independent work of the ICC in all cases within its jurisdiction. The statement highlighted that the ICC enjoys the backing of two-thirds of the world’s nations and is a critical institution in the international criminal justice system.

The office emphasized the vital role of the ICC in ensuring justice and accountability for the most serious crimes committed worldwide, including in the occupied Palestinian territories.

OCHA expressed profound regret over the unilateral sanctions imposed by Trump on ICC officials, calling for their immediate reversal. The statement underscored the necessity for the ICC to operate independently and highlighted that the Court is an essential part of the human rights infrastructure.

Concluding the statement, OCHA reaffirmed that the rule of law remains a fundamental pillar for achieving collective peace and security.
