TEL AVIV, January, 4, 2024 (WAFA) – A Hebrew channel revealed on Saturday that the occupation government is considering significantly reducing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip with the beginning of the term of US President-elect Donald Trump.
The Israeli Channel 12 added in a report, "So far, Israel has determined aid according to the commitment to President Joe Biden, but this may change in the coming weeks, after Trump returns to the White House on January 20th."
The Hebrew channel quoted an Israeli political official as saying, "We doubt that the amount of aid entering the Gaza Strip today is similar to that which will enter during the Trump administration."
The same official added, "If this is decided (to reduce aid to Gaza), it will be done in coordination with the new administration in the United States."
The channel said that "Israel realized several months ago that the humanitarian aid entering Gaza goes to Hamas, which uses it to restore its capabilities," according to its expression.
It pointed out that Defense Minister Yisrael Katz "held the first discussion yesterday of the sub-team of the Political-Security Cabinet, which was formed to deal with the issue of destroying the governmental capabilities in the Gaza
Eight members of the Knesset from the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee demanded that the Defense Minister issue an order to destroy the water, food and energy sources in northern Gaza, and to cleanse northern Gaza of its population, using the blockade, destroying the infrastructure and killing anyone.
Since the beginning of the aggression, the occupation has closed the crossings with the Strip and prevented the entry of goods and basic commodities, imposed restrictions on the entry of humanitarian and relief aid and sometimes prevented its arrival to the Strip, causing a major living crisis.
On Sunday, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned, in a post on X, of "the approach of famine" in the Gaza Strip, whose residents suffer from severe food insecurity and a lack of humanitarian aid.
