RAMALLAH, June 26, 2025 (WAFA) - Director of UNRWA Affairs for the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, Roland Friedrich, said that despite the delicate ceasefire now in place between Israel and Iran, there has been no respite for the West Bank. Out of the spotlight of the regional escalation, camps in the northern West Bank have faced ongoing destruction, with dozens of buildings demolished in the last twelve days.
He said that even now, Israeli forces are continuing to demolish homes and buildings in Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur Shams camps. “Stripped of basic dignity, many families have not even been able to save their belongings ahead of the anticipated bulldozing.”
“Once full of life, these refugee camps are now reduced to rubble. This is not just destruction: it is part of systematic forced displacement, a violation of international law, and a form of collective punishment,” he said in a post on X.
“The residents of these camps must be allowed to have access to their homes and permitted to return without delay.”
He said that UNRWA schools are preparing to welcome students for the upcoming school year, and its health centers are ready to receive patients.
He emphasized the need to support Palestinian refugees to help them recover from the consequences of displacement and destruction, enabling them to rebuild their lives.
