GAZA, June 25, 2025 (WAFA) – Medical sources reported today that the remaining hospitals operating in the Gaza Strip are threatened with closure at any moment, with severe overcrowding in inpatient, intensive care, and emergency departments, and an increase in critical cases exceeding their capacity.
The sources revealed that only 45 operation rooms are operating, out of a total of 312, with limited capacity, preventing urgent and complex surgical interventions.
Meanwhile, hospitals are suffering from a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies, particularly affecting services for cancer and heart patients.
They confirmed that 47% of the essential medicine list has been completely depleted, while the shortage of medical supplies has reached 65%.
Furthermore, only 9 of the 34 oxygen stations are still partially operational, failing to meet hospital needs. Diagnostic imaging equipment is out of order, and there is a shortage of fuel needed to operate 49 generators, deepening the crisis in vital departments.
The sources pointed out that patients are being prevented from traveling for treatment, while 338 cancer patients died while awaiting referrals. Another 11,000 were denied treatment after specialist centers were destroyed and they were prevented from leaving the Strip, while 513 patients also died because the occupation prevented them from traveling outside the Gaza Strip for treatment.
Regarding kidney failure patients, the sources confirmed that 41% of the total number died, while patients in the northern Gaza Strip suffer from a complete lack of medical care after the destruction of hospitals there.
The sources stated that blood banks are suffering from a severe shortage of units, while community donation campaigns have become ineffective due to the spread of anemia and malnutrition, especially among children and infants, due to the lack of therapeutic milk and the absence of nutritional sources and clean water.
They added that more than 59,000 cases of bloody diarrhea have been recorded since the beginning of this year, along with 254,000 cases of respiratory diseases and 337 cases of meningitis, 259 of which were viral. Chronic patients also suffer from a lack of medical follow-up and medication, which threatens their lives with serious complications.
The sources explained that, amid rising temperatures and a shortage of water and personal hygiene supplies, the likelihood of epidemics is increasing, noting that vaccination rates have also fallen to 80%, amid the continued ban on vaccines, most notably the polio vaccine.
The medical sources confirmed that the ongoing Israeli aggression and the occupation's policies of obstructing the efforts of international organizations are pushing the health sector toward complete collapse, putting the lives of thousands of patients and wounded at risk of death.
