ICRC facilitates transfer of 17 released Palestinian detainees to Nasser Hospital, calls for access to detainees

GAZA, July 6, 2026 (WAFA) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said it facilitated on Sunday the transfer of 17 Palestinian detainees released by the Israeli occupation authorities from the Kerem Abu Salem crossing to Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, in cooperation with teams from the Palestine Red Crescent Society.

In a statement, the ICRC said its teams also facilitated communication between the released detainees and their families and helped reunite them, noting that since 2023 it has facilitated the transfer of more than 2,500 released detainees through this mechanism.

The ICRC affirmed that it has been unable to access Palestinian detainees held in Israeli detention facilities since October 2023, renewing its call to be informed of the fate of all detainees and their places of detention, and to be granted access to visit them.

It stressed that international humanitarian law requires that all detainees be treated humanely, held in adequate conditions of detention, and allowed to maintain contact with their families.

The ICRC noted that many Palestinian families are still waiting for information about their detained relatives amid growing concern for their health and well-being, affirming that it continues its dialogue with the Israeli authorities to resume visits to all Palestinian detainees.
