Israeli occupation forces besiege Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza, demand evacuation

GAZA, January 3, 2024 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces have surrounded the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza, demanding the immediate evacuation of those inside.

Gunfire has been reported around the hospital, where hundreds of vulnerable civilians, including children, women, patients, and medical staff, remain trapped.

WAFA correspondent on the ground confirmed that Israeli forces continue to fire in the vicinity of the hospital while ordering the forcible removal of those inside.

Meantime, medical sources revealed that the hospital's oxygen and electricity stations have been destroyed, leaving the facility unable to provide critical medical services. Supplies have run out, placing the lives of patients and injured individuals in immediate danger.

The Indonesian Hospital has been overwhelmed with patients transferred from Kamal Adwan Hospital, which was burned and destroyed by Israeli forces last week. Kamal Adwan Hospital, one of the largest healthcare facilities in the region, served over 400,000 residents before it was surrounded, forcibly evacuated, and shelled.

Medical staff and journalists were also forcibly removed, and the hospital's director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, was detained during the attack.

In addition to targeting the hospitals, Israeli forces are bulldozing the surrounding areas, systematically dismantling infrastructure and erasing all semblance of normal life in the region.

This latest incident is part of a broader pattern of an Israeli ethnic cleansing campaign in northern Gaza. In October, Israeli forces launched a large-scale incursion, blocking the delivery of essential supplies such as food, water, and medicine, while targeting hospitals and healthcare centers.

Human rights advocates and international organizations have condemned these actions, citing violations of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, which protect medical facilities and civilians during conflict.
