CAIRO, December 19, 2024 (WAFA) – In a speech delivered today during a special session on Palestine and Lebanon at the 8th Summit of the Developing Eight Organization for Economic Cooperation in Cairo, President Mahmoud Abbas emphasized the need for a united global effort to end the Israeli occupation of the State of Palestine, including East Jerusalem.
President Abbas outlined a comprehensive political plan presented by Palestine at the recent Arab-Islamic summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, urging the international community to adopt it as a means to achieve peace.
He stressed that this plan includes several key actions, beginning with an immediate ceasefire and the full withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces in line with UN resolution 2735. Additionally, it calls for the full membership of Palestine in the United Nations and the protection of the historical and legal status of Islamic and Christian holy sites.
The plan also advocates for the implementation of the International Court of Justice’s ruling, which has now become a resolution of the UN General Assembly, requiring the end of the Israeli occupation and the dismantling of illegal settlements within one year.
Furthermore, President Abbas proposed the organization of an international peace conference in June 2025, in accordance with a UN General Assembly resolution.
The President underscored the need for global justice, calling on the international community to hold all parties accountable for violations of international law, particularly Israel’s ongoing actions in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria.
In closing, President Abbas expressed his gratitude to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and other leaders for convening the special session on Palestine and Lebanon, which he said demonstrates their commitment to halting Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, as well as Lebanon and Syria.
