Egyptian and Indonesian presidents call for respecting Palestinian right to an independent state

Cairo, December 18, 2024 (WAFA) – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto underscored the necessity of respecting the Palestinian people's right to establish an independent state, in accordance with international resolutions.

In a joint statement following a meeting in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, the two leaders condemned attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land. They rejected Israeli practices aimed at achieving this goal, including displacement efforts in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The presidents also denounced Israeli colonial activities, violence perpetrated by colonists, the demolition of Palestinian homes, military raids into Palestinian cities, and actions that threaten the legal and historical status of holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.

They discussed ways to support efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and to ensure the safe and uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the besieged enclave.

Both leaders emphasized the need for Israel to withdraw from territories occupied since June 4, 1967, halt all unilateral measures, adhere to international law and implement United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly resolutions 242, 252, 267, 446, and 2334.

They emphasized that Israel's unilateral actions to alter the facts on the ground not only violate its international obligations but also undermine the two-state solution, which continues to be recognized as the only viable path to resolving the conflict by peace-loving nations around the world.
