RAMALLAH, December 17, 2024 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Football Association (PFA) today voiced its strong support for the stance taken by Lise Klaveness, President of the Norwegian Football Federation, in which she called on FIFA to investigate Israeli violations ahead of the World Cup qualifier match between Norway and Israel.
Klaveness emphasized that Norway's participation in matches against Israel goes beyond the purely sporting dimension, voicing deep concern over the targeting of innocent civilians in Gaza.
The PFA commended Norway for acknowledging the ongoing violations against Palestinian civilians and athletes, stating that it aligns with their long-standing commitment to justice and the integrity of international sport.
The PFA added that Klaveness's statement reflects the sentiments of millions worldwide who believe that FIFA and the international football community cannot remain silent while Israel continues to commit grave human rights abuses.
The PFA highlighted the systematic targeting of Palestinian sports by Israeli forces, including athletes and sports infrastructure, which constitutes a blatant violation of FIFA regulations and international humanitarian law.
This has resulted in countless lives lost, including hundreds of athletes, and the destruction of vital sports facilities.
Furthermore, the PFA accused the Israeli Football Association of systematically violating FIFA regulations by condoning racism, using football as a tool for the annexation of occupied territory and encouraging the ongoing devastation in Gaza.
These actions undermine the core principles of football: fairness, respect and unity, the PFA said.
The PFA called upon all national football associations, including UEFA and FIFA, to uphold their ethical and legal responsibilities by suspending all sporting activities with Israel until it complies with its obligations.
The PFA urged FIFA to act transparently and urgently by launching a comprehensive investigation into Israel's practices and ensuring that football remains a tool for peace and justice.
