KUALA LUMPUR, November 22, 2024 (WAFA) - Malaysia has expressed its utmost disappointment over yet another failure by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to adopt a resolution to impose a ceasefire and to facilitate immediate access to basic services and humanitarian assistance in Gaza.
The resolution, which was supported by the majority of UNSC members, was defeated through a veto on 20 November 2024.
"The exercise of veto frustrates the wish of the international community to end the genocide in Gaza and derails efforts to find a solution to the ongoing crisis," said the Malaysian Foreign Ministry in a press statement.
Malaysia called "for the UNSC to take decisive action to end the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, and carry out its primary role of maintaining international peace and security, upholding the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and protecting the sanctity of international law."
The statement concluded, "Malaysia stands in solidarity with Palestine, and reiterates its unwavering commitment in finding a peaceful and sustainable solution to the longstanding question of Palestine."
