Australia denies former Israeli Minister entry over 'incitement' concerns

CANBERRA, November 21, 2024 (WAFA) – Australian authorities have refused to grant a visa to former Israeli Minister Ayelet Shaked, preventing her from attending a conference in the country over concerns that she might incite division.

Israeli news outlet Maariv reported on Thursday that Shaked, a former member of Israel's Knesset, was blocked from entering Australia. According to Australian media sources cited by The Times of Israel, her visa application was denied due to fears that her presence could potentially incite unrest or division.

Under Australian law, the government can refuse entry to individuals who are deemed to be a threat to social harmony or who might promote division within Australian society.

The authorities cited this provision as the basis for their decision, linking it to Shaked's past political actions and rhetoric, which have sparked controversy.
