Council of Ministers welcomes Arab consensus on the need for immediate cessation of Israeli aggression

RAMALLAH, November 13, 2024 (WAFA) – The Cabinet Wednesday welcomed the Arab and Muslim consensus on the need for the immediate cessation of the Israeli genocidal aggression in Gaza.

During its weekly session held in the West Bank city of Ramallah, the Council of Ministers welcomed the decisions of the extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit, that kicked off in Riyadh on Monday with the attendance of more than 50 leaders of Arab and Islamic countries, including President Mahmoud Abbas.

The Council of Ministers welcomed the summit’s decisions, specifically the decisions affirming “the centrality of the Palestinian cause and the firm support for the Palestinian people to achieve their legitimate and inalienable national rights, foremost among which is their right to freedom and to an independent, sovereign state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

It also welcomed the attendees’ collective efforts and actions to halt the ongoing Israeli genocidal aggression in the Gaza Strip, which has killed at least 43,712 Palestinians and injured 103,258 others, mostly women and children, and their call on the Security Council to form an independent and credible international investigation committee to investigate Israeli occupation crimes in the Strip, their rejection of the forcible displacement of Palestinians,

The Council also welcomed the attendees' call on all states to provide effective political and financial support to the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) along with their efforts aimed at not only facilitating the establishment of the independent Palestinian state but also at mobilizing international support to suspend Israel’s participation in the United Nations General Assembly, along with their call to ban the export or transfer of weapons and ammunition to Israel.

Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, who chaired the session, expressed his gratitude to Saudi Arabia and the Joint Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee for supporting the expansion of the wave of announcements of recognition of the State of Palestine and expanding their efforts to include working on ending the aggression on Lebanon.

The Council of Ministers voiced its rejection of all unilateral measures by the Israeli occupation. It reiterated President Abbas’ instructions on the intensification of diplomatic efforts to ensure a cessation of the genocidal aggression on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

It discussed putting in place not only a financial system that would reinforce the steadfastness of and compensate Palestinians for the demolition by the Israeli occupation of their properties in Area C, which accounts for 60 percent of the West Bank but also a plan to support the implementation of vital projects in Jerusalem and allocated an initial donation of approximately 8 million shekel for this purpose.

It approved the formation of a legal archaeological team to be in charge of prosecuting Israel before international legal and cultural institutions as part of the efforts to nullify its decision to seize West Bank historic sites.
